Why Mobile Check Deposits Get Rejected

Technical, procedural, or security reasons will cause your mobile check deposits to be rejected, and this will delay your money. Rejection of attempts by banks is 15-25% – because of knowing why, frustration is avoided.

Poor Image Quality
Unclear images, glare or cut-off sides do not pass through OCR scanning. Shadows blur amounts; low light blots MICR lines. Fix: Daylight on a dark surface. Bring the four corners together, first the front and then the back. Keep it still or stabilize it.

Improper Endorsement
The absence of the signature “For Mobile Deposit Only” or illegible signatures or incorrect phrasing defines fraud. Holds are caused by non-matching signatures with payee names. Fix: Sign as is, underneath with the exact phrase of the bank (e.g., “To Chase Mobile Deposit Only”). Provide account number where necessary. Blue/black ink only.

Check Condition Problems
Stains, tears, alterations or post-dated checks are against the rules. Third party checks or starter checks frequently prohibited. Fix: Check before snapping; replace damaged ones with issuers. Check the types of checks that can be done at your bank.

Policy Violations
Overspending daily limits ($2K-10K normal), duplicates, or out-of-network checks are automatically rejected. Working days only; weekends procrastinate. Fix: Check application restrictions/options. Record tracks to eliminate duplications. Deposit 9am-5pm weekdays.

Account or Fraud Flags
Funds are stored in new accounts, overdrafts or suspicious patterns. Fix: Check standing; support on manual check.

Rejections are returned within hours–resubmissions corrected in a flash. Keep checks 30 days, shred after. Branch waits clear overnight as compared to perfect deposits.
